Is this 2023's most TALKED about horror flick? Quite possibly yes ... and for good reason. There will be scenes here that might well scare the pants off you! It's playing to packed houses world wide as I type.  All hail, up and comers Danny & Michael Philippou, twins, from the suburbs of Adelaide, Australia.

The thing is, there is not a lot that TALK TO ME offers that hasn't already been done in the horror space. The script is okay. The set-ups are okay and the lighting ticks all the boxes. It's the casting and execution of this 90minute gem that has its audiences wide-eyed and glued to both seat and screen.

When a bunch of teens become addicted to the power of an embalmed, ceramic hand, as a tool for "going to the other side", we soon know what the "other side" means. Internally we might be screaming "doooooooooon't" but we know, in good hands, we will have the BEJESUUUUUUS frightened out of us. And the first piece of magic in TALK TO ME is the casting of the lead Sophie Wilde as Mia. Wilde has a beauty and compassion about her that allows for a steady hand even if the trust we have in her is tenuous on occasion.

The story of how TALK TO ME is becoming the highest grossing Australian film of all time as a U.S. release, is possibly a future feature documentary. The story of how a major studio dropped out of the project because brothers Philippou wouldn't budge on their choice of Wilde as their lead is already a headline twist. They were not prepared to compromise on artistic licence. Go boys! This may be horror, but I cant wait for the feel-good story of these up an to emerge!  10GUMS
