Film No. 1 (2016) Sisters January 5th.

Film No. 1 (2016) January 5th.  8.00 PM MOONLIGHT Outdoor, Kings Park

"R 2 D 2 is my current bra size" (Tina Fey while pretending to be drunk while completing a promo with her mate Amy Poehler, who is also mimicking drunkenness).

"And now for your entertainment, let's give it up for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler with Sisters! (applause). And don't forget, stay seated at the conclusion of the film, because there will be out-takes; boy will there be out-takes. Come on, you all love out-takes. You don't? You're sick of them? Well sit there and like them any way!"

Let's face it, Tina and Amy have become so popular they deserve the chance to go and do a project where they can be as self indulgent as they darned well like. Sisters is that project, full of scenes which could double as stand alone skits from their SNL roots. Sustaining laughs for two hours under the flimsy notion that their childhood home is being sold by their parents without their consent so they throw a party to end all parties is questionable to say the least.

Bridesmaids meets The Hangover with a smattering of Trainwreck sums up most of what Sisters has to offer. I roared with laughter through the nail salon scene (the highlight) and chuckled at a few Fey vs Poehler concept scenes, namely their bedroom memories montage and the supermarket scene with Maya Rudolph as Brenda. Sadly, a couple of bright moments don't make a film.

Sisters isn't my cup of tea but there are plenty who will drink from Tina and Amy's mug with glee. In the U.S. alone the film has taken (box office) more than its budget. It says a lot for these stars and the fans they have attracted. Good for them, but I look forward to a more original project by either or both in the future because there is no denying their talent.  6GUMS.
